Blocks
The Blocks feature inserts pre-formatted content at the current cursor position. It has two tabs: Signatures and Blocks (placeholders).
Open Blocks from the extended menu in the top-left corner of the plugin (the grid-of-squares icon).
Signature blocks
Section titled “Signature blocks”The Signatures tab generates signature pages that you insert at the end of a contract or deed.
Party detection
Section titled “Party detection”SingleDraft reads the open document and attempts to detect the contract parties automatically. When it succeeds, you see a notification such as “Detected 3 parties in the document” and the party fields are pre-filled with the detected names and positions (roles).
A badge next to the “Parties” label indicates the detection status:
- Detected automatically — parties were found in the document.
- We could not detect parties automatically — you need to fill in the parties manually.
You can refresh the detection at any time with the refresh button next to the badge.
Adding and editing parties
Section titled “Adding and editing parties”Each party row has two fields: Party position (for example, “Seller” or “Tenant”) and Party name (for example, “Acme Ltd.”).
- Click Add another party to add a new row.
- Click the dismiss (X) button to remove a row.
- If detected parties are available, they appear under “Suggested parties:” as clickable buttons. Click a suggestion to add it to the form.
The maximum number of signature blocks is 26 (labelled A through Z).
Fields (signature attributes)
Section titled “Fields (signature attributes)”Each signature block contains configurable fields that appear below the signing line. Three default fields are suggested:
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Name | Label for the signatory name |
| Position | Label for the signatory title |
| Date | Label, date value, and format |
You can remove any default field and re-add it from the “Suggested fields:” section. Click Add field to create a custom field with your own label.
When the Date field is present, you can set:
- Value for date — a date picker limited to two years in the past and two years ahead.
- Date format — choose from the following:
DD.MM.YYYY,MM/DD/YYYY,YYYY-MM-DD,DD-MM-YYYY,YYYY/MM/DD,DD.MM.YY,MM/DD/YY,YY/MM/DD.
Inserting
Section titled “Inserting”Click Insert a signature to add the blocks at the current cursor position. Signatures are inserted as Word tables with paired (side-by-side) blocks. Auto-detected values are highlighted in yellow. The plugin matches the font of the surrounding text and saves your configuration for next time.
Placeholder blocks
Section titled “Placeholder blocks”The Blocks tab inserts bracketed placeholder markers — short symbols used in legal drafting to mark items that need attention or completion.
Available block types
Section titled “Available block types”| Block | Symbol |

Custom text
Section titled “Custom text”You can type custom text in the “Add custom text”
field. The custom text is placed between the
symbol characters inside the brackets.
For example, choosing Underline and entering
“TBA” produces [_TBA_].
The plugin remembers the last custom text you used for each block type.
Preview
Section titled “Preview”A live preview above the block selector shows how the inserted block will appear in context. The preview displays the text before and after the cursor in the current paragraph, with the block highlighted in yellow.
Inserting
Section titled “Inserting”- Select a block type from the radio buttons (or dropdown on narrow sidebars).
- Optionally enter custom text.
- Click Insert block.
The block is inserted at the current cursor position. The placeholder content inside the brackets is highlighted in yellow in the document to make it easy to locate later.
